About Zinc Phosphide

Zn3P2
CAS - 1314-84-7

Zinc Phosphide is a chemical compound commonly used for rodent control. It is a dark grey, crystalline substance that is insoluble in water and alcohol. The chemical is often sold in the form of bait pellets, granules, dust or tracking powder, and has a garlic-like odour that attracts rodents. When ingested, the acid in the animal's stomach converts Zinc Phosphide into phosphine, which is toxic to the animal.

Zinc Phosphide is effective at eliminating rodents in a variety of crops, including grapes, sugarcane, artichoke, sugar beet, alfalfa, barley, berries, oats, sugar maple, wheat, corn, and hay. It is also used to control field rodents such as voles, ground squirrels, pocket gophers, prairie dogs, and jack rabbits, as well as household pests like mice and rats. In addition to being used on crop areas, Zinc Phosphide can also be used on non-crop areas such as lawns, golf courses, highway medians and areas adjacent to wetlands.
